UNIVERSES – America’s Best Comics

Getting into reading and collecting comics can seem difficult to the newcomer.  What are the different universes and why are there so many?

America’s Best Comics was a line of comic created by Alan Moore and published by Wildstorm (DC Comics) from 1999 – 2005.

Many occurred in the same universe, but the series Top Ten included many references to multiversal travel.  ABC comics set in the multiverse, include:

  • PrometheaABC22
  • Tomorrow Stories (Greyshirt, Jack B Quick, First American, Splash Brannigan); Greyshirt: Indigo Sunset.
  • Tom Strong; Tom Strong’s Terrific Tales; Top Strong & the Robots of Doom.
  • Top Ten;  Smax; Top Ten: The Forty Niners; Top Ten: Beyond the Furthest Precinct; Top Ten: Season 2.
  • Terra Obscura.

Terra Obscura featured characters from the defunct (and public domain) Nedor characters who first appeared in the ABC universe in a Tom Strong story based on an identical-to-Earth planet, somewhere across the universe referred to as Terra Obscura (Nedar published a comic called America’s Best Comics.)

League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was also published by ABC Comics but was not part of the ABC universe.
